NECYSC 2010 FAQ

General

  • Why can't [insert question] be done?
This question is first because the answer address a wide range of issues. We often recieve comments and questions as to why certain things are they way they are. The short answer to a lot of these is this: We do realize that there are many ways to do things, but please remember that the entire committee that organizes this program are VOLUNTEERS. Our goal is to provide this experience to your children year after year. We all have families and full time jobs in addition to providing this service to you and your children. Though we do try our best to accommodate requests, please also realize that, at times, it is just not possible. Things that seem like such a small and easy change to one person (switching groups for instance) does have wide impact to several aspects of the program (class sizes, materials, counselors, group sizes, distributions). If several people request the same changes, the additional work required grows rapidly. Please respect the amount of work we put into this program!

Grouping

  • My child was in the same group last year (or in a higher group), did they not "graduate"?
Grouping is not a reflection on age or ability, but a division of the campers we have for any given year. Our demographics change from year to year and the number of campers above or below your childs age impacts the group they are placed in. There could be several groups where everyone is the same age or a group that covers many age groups.

  • Why can't I change my group?
Please understand that we do our best to group campers by age. Though we try as best we can to accommodate requests, we are also balancing age, gender, and class size across the entire camp and every change we make has impact across the board. We can NOT accept group changes close to camp because all other logistics (name tags, grouping lists, class materials) have to be considered and it is very disruptive. (see first question)

Roommates

  • How are roommates choosen?
Campers stay in rooms of 2 and are assigned according to gender, age, and roommate requests. If you did not request a specific roommate, or your preferred roommate chose another camper for their roommate, you will be placed in a room with someone near your age. Think of it as an opportunity to meet someone new!
